A Suezmax tanker collides with a bulk carrier near Qingdao, causing an oil spill, reports Platts.

What happened?

A laden Suezmax tanker collided with a dry bulk carrier April 27 near China’s Qingdao port, damaging its hull and resulting in an oil spill in the Yellow Sea.

According to sources, the collision happened at around 08,50 hrs local time, April 27.

Suezmax Tanker Immobilized Due To Mass Sick Crew

A Suezmax tanker had to be moved to Le Havre from outer anchorage by 5 tugs on Apr 24 for safety reasons, after the tanker was immobilized, reports Maritime Bulletin.

The Suezmax tanker was immobilized due to mass crew sickness. 16 out of 25 crew were tested positive, of 2 crew airlifted to hospital on Apr 20, one, who’s a Chief Engineer, was later moved to ICU and as of Apr 24, remained at ICU.

Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT), a joint venture between NYK and Knutsen, has concluded a 10-year time charter contract with PetroChina for a shuttle tanker.
