Kirby Corporation reports increased earnings

America’s largest tank barge operator, Houston-headquartered Kirby Corporation (NYSE: KEX), has reported net earnings for the quarter ended September 30, 2023 of $63.0 million or $1.05 per share. That’s up on its earnings of $39.1 million or $0.65 per share for the 2022 third quarter. Consolidated revenues for the 2023 third quarter were $764.8 million compared with $745.8 million reported for the 2022 third quarter.

EverGreen Seal gains ERL an AWO safety award

The American Waterways Operators reports that its Tankering & Barge Operations Subcommittee has presented AWO affiliate member ERL Inc. with the panel’s third annual safety award.

The award was given ERL for he creation and testing of its EverGreen Seal. The EverGreen Seal replaces current braided Teflon gaskets and reduces cargo vapor emissions from tank barge hatches by more than 90%, improving safety for mariners and shore tankering personnel as well as environmental sustainability.

Kirby awarded $17.4 million in Houston Channel collision case

In a July 8 ruling, U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Vincent Brown has awarded Kirby Inland Marine $17,398,488 in a case stemming from the May 10, 2019, Houston Ship Channel incident in which the LPG carrier Genesis River collided with a 297 foot long tank barge being pushed ahead by the 69 foot long Kirby Inland Marine towing vessel Voyager.

Southwest Shipyard delivers Shearer Group-designed 23K barrel tank barge

The Shearer Group Inc. (TSGI) has announced the delivery of a 250’x54’x12’-6”, 23,000 bbl. tank barge built by Southwest Shipyard L.P., Houston. (The name of the owner was not disclosed.) Southwest Shipyard contracted TSGI to develop the design of the barge. The barges primary mission is to deliver jet fuel to support U.S. Navy assets.

Kirby posts first quarter losses, citing Covid-19 and oil patch slowdown

Arcosa launches first barge from reopened facility

After reopening its idle barge manufacturing operations earlier this year, Arcosa Marine’s Madisonville, La., facility launched its first barge on July 25. The 297.5’x54’x12′, 30,000-bbl. tank barge E2MS 314 was built for E Squared Marine Service LLC, Houston.
