The discount rate: Has the Government gone far enough?
Last week it was announced that as of 5 August 2019, the discount rate (a figure used to help calculate lump sum compensation payments for high value personal injury claims) will increase from -0.75% to -0.25% following a review under the Civil Liability Act 2018. From the CEO of The Shipowners’ Club: financial results for the 2018 financial year
In updating on our financial results for the 2018 financial year, the Club has reported a combined ratio of 104.2%, with an increase in Member and vessel numbers, an uplift in gross tonnage to 27.3m but with a reduction in capital and free reserves of US$ 37.9m.
