Huawei to assist Tianjin Port with digital transformation and terminal upgrade

Tianjin Port Group and Huawei, a China-based provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, will expand their collaboration to create a digital twin of the Chinese port.

Yang Jiemin, vice president of Tianjin Port Group, explained that the digital twin of the port will include the construction of new automated terminals, the updating of existing terminals, and the digital transformation of the port.

Tianjin port tests all workers as partial lockdown imposed

Nearly 11,000 nucleic acid samples from port workers have been collected by Tianjin Port Group as a growing Covid-19 outbreak placed the port city to be partially locked down today.

Tianjin Port Group is testing all employees to comply with epidemic control measures, alongside the mass testing of all 14 million Tianjin residents that began on 9 January.

Tianjin is the world’s eighth busiest container port, having handled 18.53 million TEU in 2020.

Tianjin and Guangzhou ports to launch direct container service

Tianjin Port Group and Guangzhou Port Group have inked an agreement to commence a direct route between the ports, to cut down on transhipments.

This is part of Tianjin Port’s FAST (Freight, Accuracy, Saving, Team) scheme to expedite container shipments.

Chinese liner operators, such as COSCO Shipping Lines’ intra-Asia arm Shanghai Pan Asia Shipping, Zhonggu Logistics and Antong Holdings, as well as local non-vessel owning common carrier Trawind Shipping, were also signatories to the agreement.

Tianjin and SITC seal deal with new service

Chinese intra-Asia carrier SITC Container Lines has launched a service connecting China’s Tianjin port with Vietnam and Malaysia.

The Hong Kong-based shipping and logistics firm has agreed to work with Tianjin Port Development Holdings, which was seeking a link with Southeast Asia as part of the Belt and Road initiative.

Shandong Port Group is eyeing more reefer shipping links between Shandong province’s largest port, Qingdao, and Southeast Asia, amid growing Chinese demand for Southeast Asian tropical fruits.
