US exporters more likely to misdeclare dangerous cargo says NCB

In a recent survey of US export containers the National Cargo Bureau (NCB) found that 38% of containers had misdeclared cargo, according to a White Paper released by the group on 6 July.

According to the NCB inspections of container cargoes have shown a “high degree of non-compliance,” for containers with declared dangerous goods including a high incidence of poor stowage and securing within containers.

COSCO to develop blockchain solutions with Alibaba group

China COSCO Shipping Corporation has signed a collaboration agreement with compatriot e-commerce giant Alibaba and the latter’s fintech affiliate, Ant Financial Services Group (formerly Alipay), pledging to work together to develop blockchain shipping logistics solutions.

Gothenburg to fire its new transhipment terminal

A completely new transhipment terminal, located between the Port of Gothenburg’s container and ro-ro terminals, is emerging, according to an announcement by the major Swedish port.

The facility, named the Svea Terminal, will receive incoming forest products by rail from Swedish mills and then transfer the products to containers for onward transport to various parts of the world. Volumes equivalent to 60,000-100,000TEU will be handled at the terminal each year.

Seoul mandates comprehensive freight disclosures

South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) has acted to improve the transparency of container freight charges so that shippers will be better informed of the prices offered by liner operators, across a broad selection of routes.

DCSA accelerates shipping digitalisation with new OVS exchange standards

Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), a neutral, non-profit group established to further the digitalisation of container shipping technology, has published standards for the exchange of operational vessel schedules (OVS).

China’s securities watchdog punishes Antong bosses

Guo Dongze and Guo Dongsheng, majority shareholders of Chinese domestic container operator Antong Holdings, and other senior staff have been penalised by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) for failing to disclose lawsuits against the company.

COSCO unit launches Jinzhou-Hainan service

COSCO Shipping Lines and its intra-Asia unit, Shanghai Pan Asia Shipping, have launched a service connecting Jinzhou port in China’s north-eastern Liaoning province, to Yangpu port on Hainan island.
