The BDI  (Baltic Dry Index) gained 11 points and now stands at 1,282 thanks to the as ever volatile Capes… Looks a “positive” start for the New Year but reality bites as all other indices – Dry and Wet are in red! Geopolitics as expected turn sour; John Faraclas’ brief recap:

The culprits of the Dry Market the Capes saw the BCI  gaining 82 points and now standing at 1,987 raises too many eyebrows… We hope all other indices go well as this time if things continue we will see...

Turkey: New pollution fine tariffs from 2019

As of 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020, new pollution fine tariffs are entering into effect in Turkey, according to data provided by Kuzei P&I Correspondents.

Petrol and Petroleum products discharged to sea by tankers:

  • Up to 1000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton * 400 TL
  • Between 1000 and 5000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton * 100 TL (Addition to 1)
  •  Over 5000 gross tons: Per Ton * 10 TL (Addition to 1 and 2)

Dirty ballast discharged to sea by tankers: (Same as last year)

Cargo ship runs aground off Karaburun, Black Sea, Turkey

Due to strormy sea, a cargo ship ran aground in the Black Sea off northeastern Istanbul early on Wednesday, December 19. After the rescue operation, which lasted several hours, all crew members were safe and no casualties were reported.

First non-EU ship recycling yards join EU List of approved facilities

LEYAL and LEYAL-DEMTAS join the EU list following independent verification from Lloyd’s Register (LR)

13 December 2018 – The European Commission published the fourth version of the ‘European List of ship recycling facilities’ last week, adding six new yards, taking the total up to 26. It includes 23 facilities located in European Union (EU) member states, and for the first time ever, three located in non-EU member states – LEYAL and LEYAL-DEMTAS in Turkey and a facility in the USA.
