The Mission to Seafarers has published the latest Seafarers Happiness Index report for the second quarter of 2021, painting a grim picture of seafarer welfare with overall happiness dropping to an all-time low since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report, which is carried out with support from Wallem Group and the Standard Club, revealed that seafarers were becoming frustrated of being constantly in the same environment due to the lack of shore leave.

International Seafarers Are Now Eligible For Vaccination At Belgium Ports

Belgium on Monday launched a Covid-19 vaccination program for foreign sailors at its bustling ports. Officials have said that medical teams would be boarding ships for inoculations.

About 80,000 sailors on over 5,500 vessels have been estimated to arrive at Belgium’s North Sea ports of Zeebrugge, Antwerp, and Ghent each year.

The Belgium ministry, which is in charge of maritime affairs said that the initiative aims to give the hard-to-reach groups the chance to be vaccinated.
