Auto parts maker Timken Co. opens factory in Mexico

Ohio-based auto parts maker The Timken Co. recently announced the start of its new factory in Mexico.

Along with the new Timken plant, Mexico-based Envases Group plans to open a $35 million aluminum can production and distribution facility in central Texas.

The two projects will create around 220 jobs in manufacturing, logistics and transportation.

Manitou Group closing plant in Texas

Manitou Group (EPA: MTU) announced Wednesday it will close its manufacturing and distribution facility in Waco, Texas, and consolidate most of its U.S. production in South Dakota.

The shutdown will eliminate 148 jobs at the Waco facility, which assembled masted forklift trucks and articulated loaders.

The closure is aimed at “strengthening the Manitou Group position in the U.S.,” according to a release.

Amazon to open robotics fulfillment center in central Texas

Amazon Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced plans to open a 700,000-square-foot fulfillment center in the central Texas city of Waco. 

The new facility will create more than 1,000 full-time jobs and is expected to come online in 2021. It will be located on a 90-acre site on the city’s south side, just off of Interstate 35.

Waco, which has a population of 144,000 people, is located 100 miles north of Austin along I-35.
