The UK’s cherry producers are happy to talk about the fact that favourable conditions earlier this year could result in a bumper crop. With the rain in early June appearing to have little effect, this year’s crop is forecast at 6,500 tonnes, well up on last year’s disappointing figure of 3,233.
Promotion group Love Fresh Cherries said that favourable winter weather had helped dormancy and would result in a tasty crop with a good range of fruit sizes available for most varieties.
