Several years of poor maintenance led to APL England container loss accident

A final report into the loss of containers from the 5,780 TEU vessel APL England off Sydney in 2020 notes the importance of vessel fixtures being regularly maintained to ensure they are secure and stable, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

APL England was making its way down the east coast of Australia on 24 May 2020 when, in adverse weather, it underwent a series of heavy rolls that resulted in the loss of 50 boxes overboard, and shutdown of the main engine.
