Canada Port Strike Resumes After Union Members Reject Four-Year Wage Agreement

Canada’s west coast ports experienced a fresh wave of shock last night as the dockworkers’ union voted against the federal mediator’s ‘recommended terms of settlement’ for the contested collective bargaining agreement.

Last week, the mediator put forth a compromise to resolve the strikes at the gateways. However, ILWU Canada President Rob Ashton rejected the proposal, stating, “The ILWU Canada Longshore Caucus does not believe the recommendations could protect our jobs now or into the future.”
