An inland port project in Hall County

A proposed inland port in Hall County would use existing rail lines and connect Hall to the port in Savannah, making it easier for local businesses to import and export goods.

The project is still in the early planning stages, but if everything goes according to plan, the port would likely open in 2021, according to John Trent, senior director of strategic operations with the Georgia Ports Authority. Construction would take about 18 to 24 months, he said.

The exact site has not been announced.

China possible to ban open-loop scrubbers

Speaking during a lunch that the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) organised, Dr. Xie Xie, director of the  Waterborne Transportation Research Institute at the Chinese Ministry of Transport, said that he is not sure if China will allow open-loop scrubbers as a compliance measure in its ECAs and coastal waters.

ISRA: EU capacity copes with demand ahead EU ship recycling regulation

The International Ship Recycling Association (ISRA) argued that the EU recycling capacity will possibly cope with the expected demand of end of life EU flagged ships, as the current listed EU capacity to recycle ships amounts only about 1,3 million LDT.

In the past months, attention has been drawn to the date of 31-12-2018, of the entry into force of the EU Ship Recycling Regulation, stipulating that the recycling capacity to recycle EU flagged ships should be 2,5 million LDT.
