U.S. Xpress sees freight moving at ‘fever pitch’ through at least H1/22

U.S. Xpress says inflation, consumer spending will determine trajectory of freight cycle

A first-half 2022 economic outlook issued by truckload carrier U.S. Xpress Wednesday calls for strength in freight demand to last through at least the first half of the year. The company highlighted some caveats, most notably the impact of inflation on consumer spending.

Inventory replenishment is likely to carry freight demand through the beginning of the year, the report said. After that, it’s really up to how much of a bite inflation takes out of the consumer’s wallet.

“If the economy can...

ArcBest raises long-term financial targets, expects revenue to double by 2025

ArcBest sees $7 billion to $8 billion in revenue by 2025

ArcBest updated long-term financial targets Tuesday in conjunction with the release of its fourth-quarter earnings report. The company expects to grow revenue to $7 billion to $8 billion by 2025. Hitting the high end of the range would double its top line from the $3.98 billion it recorded in 2021.

The guidance also included margin targets. The asset-based segment, which includes less-than-truckload operations, is expected to see operating margins in the 10% to 15% range, which is higher than...

Is 2022 the year of the retail reset? Deloitte thinks so

Deloitte's 2022 Retail Industry Outlook breaks down trends in retail supply chains and e-commerce for 2022

It’s a new year, but retailers face the same supply chain mess that they did in 2021. Freight and shipping volumes remain at record levels and rates are higher than they’ve ever been. But at the same time, over 1 million retail jobs remain unfilled, while consumers expect to buy and receive goods with more convenience than ever before.

According to the experts, all of these factors mean we’re reaching a singularity –– a retail reset, if you will. Pulling together insights from 50 retail...

Capacity coming online not enough to meet demand for logistics space

The Future of Logistics is Flexible

The logistics industry is no stranger to disruption. However, the more common supply chain disruptions have been fairly predictable like seasonality, or short-lived like inclement weather and manufacturing issues. In contrast, nothing about COVID-19’s effect on the supply chain has been predictable.

Shippers experienced rollercoaster variability and unstable supply throughout the bulk of 2020 before buckling in for a yearlong peak in 2021. Consumer demands surged all year, and expectations...

Check Call: Oh hey, 2022, how you doin’?

Hot Take

Image: reddit

We all know that feeling of hope and “new year, new me” that January brings. While we might not be rushing into the gym right away, we can certainly look at some things to get excited about in the new year. We have to be optimistic now so we can throw shade at 2022 in December just like we did to 2021 earlier in the week. Fair is fair.

Some of the things I’m looking forward to are a result of major changes and acquisitions from this year so 2021 can’t be all bad. Without...
