Adani Ports launches operations at Colombo West International Terminal

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has initiated operations at the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), located at the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

The terminal is operated by a consortium of India’s major port operator APSEZ, Sri Lanka’s John Keells Holdings and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, based on a 35-year contract as stated in a recent exchange filing.

Adani’s Mundra Port continues to expand Indian container trade market share

Competition between government/landlord ports and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in India is heating up, with the latter making rapid inroads into the emerging market.

Adani Group’s flagship Mundra Port boosted its market share of Indian containerised trade to 34% last fiscal year (2023-24), from 31% year-over-year, according to exclusive data obtained by Container News. Mundra competes with Nhava Sheva Port for north-western cargo, which makes up the bulk of Indian box volumes.

India’s Mundra port berths MSC giant container ship

Mundra Port, the flagship port of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), berthed the 399 metres long and 54 metres wide vessel, MSC Hamburg.

The 2015-built container ship was anchored at the Indian port on 2 July 2023.

MSC Hamburg has a carrying capacity of 15,908 TEUs and its current draught is reported to be 12 meters.

Meanwhile, the port of Mundra has resumed all its services after the temporary suspension of operations ordered by the government due to Cyclone Biparjoy.
