Brake module corrosion continues to vex Daimler Truck

Daimler Truck North America is conducting a third safety recall – about 77,000 vehicles across seven model years in the U.S. and Canada – for brake module corrosion that could cause pulling to one side of the road, which could raise the possibility of a crash.

None of the three recalls involving more than 475,000 units has a crash associated. A miniscule number of vehicles have exhibited the condition among the number built between June 2016 and March 2022

Safety ratings at risk for violators of proposed speed limiter law

Drivers who violate proposed laws mandating that their trucks be equipped with devices limiting speeds to no more than 70 miles per hour could have safety rating consequences even in states that have higher speed limits, a truck safety group points out.

The latest such proposal, the Cullum Owings Large Truck Safe Operating Speed Act, was introduced in Congress on Tuesday by Reps. Lucy McBath, D-Ga., and John Katko, R-N.Y.

Tech-enabled used truck trade-ins could boost road safety

Roadways could soon be a little safer as used trucks equipped with advanced safety technologies trickle into dealerships.

Truck makers began adding collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking as part of advanced driver assistance systems for the 2018 model year. Those trucks are being swapped for even safer models.

Carriers ordered more than 100,000 new Class 8 trucks in September, October and  November.
