Boeing, Airbus raise 20-year outlook for air cargo on express growth

Continued growth in demand for shipping goods by air will translate into a global freighter fleet in 2041 that is 80% larger than today, Boeing said over the weekend in a market outlook slightly more bullish on air cargo than a year ago and compared to rival Airbus’ new forecast. 

The rosier analysis explains why Boeing projects a need for 540 more dedicated cargo jets than Airbus over the next 20 years.

Embraer notches 1st sale for E-Jet freighter conversions

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has received its first firm order for up to 10 conversions of the E190/E195 passenger jet to a freighter from an undisclosed customer, underscoring the continued strong demand for all-cargo aircraft of all sizes even as the global economy begins to cool down.

Aircraft for conversion will come from the customer’s current E-Jet fleet. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2024, Embraer said in a news release Friday.

Air cargo market heads toward 2nd best year despite softening

Air cargo business is slowing amid global macroeconomic pressures but 2022 is still shaping up as one of the industry’s strongest years ever with cargo revenues nearly double those before the pandemic, the International Air Transport Association said Monday. Air France-KLM forms cargo alliance with French shipping giant CMA CGM

Air France-KLM Group and ocean shipping giant CMA CGM announced Wednesday the formation of a 10-year alliance between their air cargo divisions under which the companies will jointly market capacity in their respective cargo networks to increase their scale and competitiveness.

Air cargo slumps in March as war, China lockdowns take toll

The war in Ukraine, sanctions on Russia and stepped-up COVID lockdowns in China caused the air cargo market to contract in March and macroeconomic clouds could further dampen a sector that has performed well during a chaotic pandemic, according to new analyses.
