Amazon explores cargo charter service with Sun Country Airlines

Sun Country Airlines is in discussions with Amazon about expanding their air cargo partnership to include special charter flights for dedicated customers, CEO Jude Bricker said on a media call Thursday to discuss the carrier’s financial results.

Sun Country (NASDAQ: SNCY), a hybrid low-cost carrier, operates 12 Boeing 737-800 converted freighters on a daily basis within Amazon’s scheduled domestic air network to support next-day and two-day package delivery.

Cargo airline Amerijet warns of pilot furloughs amid downsizing

Amerijet International plans to furlough a number of pilots in the near future to shore up cash flow after the loss of major contracts with the U.S. Postal Service and other accounts, according to internal company communications.

The number of pilots to be suspended depends on how many pilots accept offers to work less. The Miami-based cargo airline says it needs to reduce the pilot roster in line with lower customer demand.

CMA CGM outsources new trans-Pacific service to Atlas Air 

Ocean shipping giant CMA CGM’s startup cargo airline has hired U.S.-based Atlas Air to provide crews for the launch this year of a trans-Pacific route with new Boeing 777 freighters that were not previously disclosed. And it doubled its order for next-generation Airbus A350 freighters later this decade in its effort to develop a global network.

Air cargo market rides an incoming wave, but can it last?

The air cargo market has started the year on an apparent tear thanks to strong e-commerce volumes out of Asia and extended transits for ocean freight being rerouted around the Red Sea conflict zone, but whether the growth is sustainable or a product of low comparisons to last year remains an open question.
