Cargo airline Amerijet warns of pilot furloughs amid downsizing

Amerijet International plans to furlough a number of pilots in the near future to shore up cash flow after the loss of major contracts with the U.S. Postal Service and other accounts, according to internal company communications.

“If we do not have enough volunteers or an increase in business, we will...

Struggling freighter operator Amerijet International will close its small shipping station in Atlanta at the end of March in the latest attempt to reduce costs amid mounting financial losses driven by a prolonged downturn in freight markets and the end of some key contracts.

The Miami-based cargo airline will shutter the warehouse it operated a few miles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and outsource freight transfers to Worldwide Flight Services, a large airport ground...

Amerijet turns tables on Korean Air for opposing commercial permit

Amerijet, a mid-tier cargo airline based in Miami, has asked the U.S. Department of Transportation to withhold approval for a startup operator of business jets owned by Korean Air to fly to U.S. destinations because Korean Air is blocking its request to offer scheduled service in and out of South Korea.

And it threw a grenade into Korean Air’s $1.4 billion merger plan with struggling Asiana Airlines, saying the Department of Justice should consider the airline’s behavior toward Amerijet as part...

Amerijet lays off workers as freight recession drags on

Amerijet International on Wednesday terminated more than a dozen employees because of sharply lower revenues associated with a prolonged slump in global air cargo demand that is beginning to materially hurt more freighter operators.

The move comes on the heels of the company’s pilots on Friday ratifying a new three-year contract that raises their pay up to 45%, increasing expenses for the Miami-based all-cargo carrier at a time of shrinking sales.

“Over the past several months, our company,...
