Innovation platform, Plug and Play, together with founding partners Euronav, CMB, Port of Antwerp, City of Antwerp, and DXC Technology, has announced the launch of their first maritime program in Antwerp, Belgium, reports Offshore Energy.

Snapshot: Port volumes as muddy as hell

Preliminary port throughput data for the world’s largest 25 container ports has been published by Alphaliner this week.  
The headline is that 13 of the top 25 saw growth, and 12 saw box volumes shrink – we should be wary of extrapolating this to the wider port market however, as it is still unclear whether their gains are the result of market growth or more simply the result of smaller ports’ losses (check Dalian below).

Antwerp and Zeebrugge will merge – creating a superport to rival Rotterdam

A new superport is set to be created in north-west Europe after the Belgian ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge announced today that they will formally merge. 
Talks between the municipal authorities of Antwerp and Bruges began in 2018 and unification will put the superport within touching distance of nearby rival, Europe’s largest container hub, Rotterdam.
