APM Terminals Pecém breaks box volume records and boosts fruit exports

Brazil’s APM Terminals Pecém handled 55,000 TEUs in October, representing the highest monthly volume ever recorded in the terminal’s history.

The terminal also saw an important 11% growth in container moves year to date, versus the same period in 2022, mainly driven by a 23% growth in the export of produce from the fruit growing centers of Pernambuco, Bahia, Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte.

APM Terminals Pecém achieves 10% container volume growth

APM Terminals Pecém has reported a two-digit growth for the second consecutive year, registering close to 430,000 TEU in 2021.

The figures show a growth of 10% compared to the 2020 movements, mainly resulting from refrigerated cargo exports, which grew approximately 21% compared to 2020 figures.

APM Terminals Pecém invests in infrastructure

APM Terminals Pecém has invested US$58.4 million in four cranes, which will be delivered to the Brazilian terminal in the coming months.

Three of them will be rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for container operations in the yard, and one will be ship-to-shore (STS) crane for vessel operations.

Largest non-containerised cargo operation in Pecém

The shipment of three wind blades of 72.5m each to APM Terminals Pecém was the largest shipment of non-containerised cargo on a container ship in the world, according to APM Terminals.

The operation was the result of joint action between several companies within Maersk, with the carrier Aliança Navegação e Logística responsible for sea freight, APM Terminals Pecém being the port of shipment and Maersk Brazil’s Logistics and Services team providing logistics solutions for the customer.
