Steerprop has received a new order for two 2.5 MW SP 60 PULL ARC propulsors to be delivered to a newbuild icebreaking vessel. This strengthens Steerprop’s position as a global supplier of propulsors of this size that can operate in extreme arctic conditions, company officials said in a statement announcing the new order.

Hempel introduces new coating system

Early this month, global coatings manufacturer Hempel launched an innovative new fouling defence system – Hempaguard MaX. The three-coat system provides vessels with a smoother hull, reduces drag and results in significantly lower fuel requirements. It will deliver a guaranteed maximum speed loss of 1.2% over five years, according to Hempel.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s phased-in approach to rein in marine diesel emissions has reached Tier 4. The new standards went into effect Jan. 1, 2017, for most of the industry.
