Calling the decision disappointing but necessary, American Queen Steamboat Co. (AQSC) has extended cruise suspensions into August.

Safe Boats delivers three new fireboats to New York

Safe Boats International (SAFE) delivered boats 17, 18 and 19 to the marine division of the New York Fire Department during the month of August. Since 2006 Safe has successfully built and delivered a variety of boats to FDNY ranging in size from a 27′ full cabin vessel with firefighting equipment all the way up to the 64′ “Bravest” with three separate fire pump stations that went into service in 2011.

ACL’s second new riverboat to be delivered in August

American Cruise Lines announced that its second new modern riverboat, the 269’x59′ American Harmony, moved under its own power to the shipyard’s outfitting pier for final touches.

The 2,700 gt. American Harmony was successfully launched at Chesapeake Shipbuilding this past November 2018 and is well ahead of schedule for its Aug. 17, 2019 inaugural cruise on the Mississippi River, the company said in a recent statement.

Port of NY and NJ achieves an all-time record

The Port of New York and New Jersey hit an all-time monthly record in August. Total volume for August 2018 was 651,752 TEUs (371,710 lifts) versus 631,404 TEUs (361,565 lifts) in August 2017, a 3.2% increase. Import loads (TEUs) were up by 4% in August 2018 vs. August 2017 and export loads (TEUs) decreased 0.2% in August 2018 vs. August 2017. Export empties increased 4.3% totaling 191,521 TEUs in August 2018 versus 183,655 TEUs in August 2017.
