Autos from Mexico to US helped cross-border trade surge to $73B in May

Boosted by shipments of cars, computers, auto parts and commercial vehicles to the United States, Mexico was the top U.S. trade partner in May, at $73 billion, according to data from the Census Bureau.

It was the fifth consecutive month and 15th of the past 16 months Mexico has been No. 1 in trade with the U.S. The $73 billion trade total in May was a 6.3% increase from the same period in 2023.

Container traffic at Port Houston registers best month ever: 297,621 TEUs

Port Houston announced Wednesday that July was the biggest month ever recorded for container twenty-foot equivalent units, with 297,621 TEUs moved. That beat the previous record set in March by more than 73,000.

Port Houston posts 39% year-over-year container volume growth

Port Houston’s container activity in June surpassed the record level of twenty-foot equivalent units for the same month last year, despite a decline in steel and auto volumes.

Total June container volume was 292,627 TEUs, a 39% increase compared to the same month in 2020.
