Averitt Express opens Dallas-area distribution center

Cookeville, Tennessee-based Averitt Express recently opened a 400,000-square-foot distribution and fulfillment center in Grand Prairie, Texas, near Dallas.

The new center, which employs about 70 workers, is aimed at streamlining supply chains for manufacturers, distributors and retailers, company officials said.

Averitt announces pay bump for new truckload drivers

Driver pay on the rise

Trucking company Averitt Express has announced a pay increase for its newly hired regional truckload and flatbed drivers.

Regional drivers will now start at a rate of 50 cents per mile, $1,200 assuming a five-day week, the carrier announced on Monday. Flatbed associates will start at 52 cents per mile, $1,375 for the full week. Both regional and flatbed drivers will see a 2-cent-per-mile increase after a year if they have received their hazmat endorsement.

China is again the top trading partner of the United States, with trade totaling $59.6 billion in October, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

China’s total trade with the U.S. rose 25% in October compared to the same month a year ago, with imports from China increasing 14% and U.S. exports to China increasing 51%.

More indictments handed down in Louisiana staged accident scheme

The staged accident scandal in Louisiana keeps getting bigger.

Nine more individuals were charted in an indictment handed down by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana Peter Strasser last week. The specific charges against the defendants are all based on mail fraud, as it was for the 19 people previously charged.

That brings to 28 the total number of people indicted.

Career Tracks: Höegh and Elemica get new CEOs

Andreas Enger will become the chief executive officer of Höegh Autoliners on Sept. 8.
