The customs authority has been requested to make it easier to issue certificates for short shipments of goods in terms of exports to the top organisation representing Bangladeshi garment manufacturers and exporters, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Chittagong depots to raise charges by 42.5% amid diesel price hike

As the fuel oil price in Bangladesh saw a record hike on 5 August, the inland container depots in Chittagong have moved to raise diesel-linked service charges by 42.5% to meet up the costs arising.

Bangladesh fears ‘inadequate’ feeder services could result in a cotton crisis

Bangladeshi textile millers fear a massive shortage of cotton in the coming months, as shipping lines seem ‘unwilling’ to carry Chittagong-bound cargo owing to a shortage of feeder vessels.
“Mother vessels wait in transhipment ports, but feeder services are inadequate and fail to reach them in time,” said Mohammad Ali Khokon, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA).

Bangladesh makes GPS tracker mandatory to stop cargo theft at highways

The Bangladesh government has made mandatory use of a global positioning system (GPS) tracker in covered vans aiming to prevent theft of cargos on roads.

The decision was taken on 12 July after the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) alleged that export goods are theft from covered vans while they are on the road towards Chittagong off docks.
