The technology group Wärtsilä is cooperating with the Finnish Border Guard in the testing of Bio LNG as fuel for a Coastguard patrol vessel. The aim is to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, thereby lessening the impact on global warming.

The 96 metre long vessel, the ‘Turva’, is fitted with Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines and has been supported with a Wärtsilä maintenance agreement since its launch in 2014. The Bio LNG fuel is supplied by Gasum, a Finnish state-owned biogas refiner.

Bio-LNG provides competitive advantage, providing favourable finance longer through greater emissions reductions

LONDON, 25 February 2021: New analysis from SEA-LNG, the coalition for accelerating LNG as a marine fuel, has determined that for every 10% of bio-LNG dropped in and blended with LNG as a marine fuel, a vessel can achieve two extra years’ compliance with the Annual Efficiency...

The Future Of LNG As A Marine Fuel

Today, LNG-fuelled vessels amount to approximately 13% of the current newbuild order book and estimates for 2021 and beyond show continuing growth in many classes of vessels, reports The Maritime Executive.

Reducing the carbon footprint

Importantly, 2020 also saw the first uses of bio-LNG by deep-sea ocean vessels, thereby reducing the carbon footprints of these vessels.

The reasons for this expansion are clear. Ports and cities around the world are beginning to take the threat of air pollution...

LNG A Prime Pathway To Carbon Neutrality

SEA-LNG released a new report showing that LNG is no longer a niche option but a marine fuel of the future, says an article published in Offshore Energy.

LNG-Fuelled shipping

2020 was a year of positive developments for LNG-fuelled shipping. It saw a record number of ships using and ports supplying LNG.

The fundamental binary choice facing newbuilds in 2021 is a choice between using LNG now or retrofitting later, as stressed by Peter Keller, chairman of SEA-LNG.

New SEA/LNG report: Bio-LNG a prime pathway to carbon neutrality

A report just released by SEA-LNG, the multi-sector industry coalition advocating for LNG as a marine fuel, says that LNG-fueled vessels account for approximately 13% of the current newbuild order book, with estimates for 2021 and beyond showing continuing growth in many classes of vessels. Importantly, 2020 also saw the first uses of bio-LNG by deep-sea ocean vessels, reducing their carbon footprints.

The report outlines how LNG as a marine fuel has moved from being a niche option to a...

Total Acquires Leading Biogas Producer in Green Push

French energy company Total’s acquisition of a major biogas producer in the country will help boost its ability to supply bio-LNG as a marine fuel, reports Ship & Bunker.

LNG for maritime decarbonization

On Monday, Total announced the acquisition of Fonroche Biogaz, the largest producer of renewable gas in France. The company now plans to produce 4-6 TWh/year of biomethane by 2030.

This is an important step forward for us to realise bio-LNG as a real marine fuel solution for shipping’s...
