Messy weekend wintry mix continues in Northern states

Truckers will hit more wet and slushy conditions this weekend from the Great Lakes to the Northeast.

Two cold fronts will produce periods of mixed precipitation — rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain — Friday and Saturday. Most travel impacts will be across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio through Friday night and early Saturday morning, then from West Virginia to Maine the rest of Saturday. Gusty winds may lead to occasional blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Quick-hitting snowstorm heading to Great Lakes

Truckers in parts of the Midwest will run into heavy snow Thursday, as well as gusty winds.

The snowstorm will be a fairly quick-hitter, cranking up Thursday morning and fading for most places by early Friday morning. It won’t be a major storm by any stretch, but it may cause brief delays for drivers.

The Alberta Clipper — a fast-moving winter storm that enters the north-central U.S. from Canada — will sweep across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. The National Weather Service has issued winter...

Snowstorm to slam Rockies early this week

Cars and tractor-trailers on a snowy highway.

The first major storm of the season is set to blanket the Rockies with heavy snow through midweek. While this will primarily be a mountain snow event, a few snowflakes could reach the lower-lying valleys.

Whether truckers are ready for it or not, Old Man Winter will slam a large part of the region Monday through Tuesday, fading early Wednesday. The storm will also produce blizzard conditions and the coldest temperatures of the season in the mountainous terrain, with lows dropping into the teens...

Heavy dose of springtime snow in the Rockies

Traffic backup on snowy Wyoming highway.

Old Man Winter isn’t done with the Rockies quite yet, even though it’s mid-April. Periods of heavy snow and gusty winds will slam the region over the next two days.

Snowstorms aren’t unusual this time of year, but shippers and carriers should expect some minor to moderate supply chain disruptions due to the wintry conditions. Truckers will have to chain up.

The storm system, which began Tuesday night, will continue to dump accumulating snow mostly in the central and northern Rockies of Colorado,...

Snowy week ahead for Rockies truckers

Tractor-trailers on a snowy Colorado highway.

Old Man Winter will hang around the Rockies this week, dumping heavy snow in some spots. Winds will be whipping, too, making travel a bit dicey for drivers who are deadheading (hauling empty trailers) or carrying light loads.

The worst conditions will likely happen Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly from west of Denver in Colorado to southern Idaho, western Wyoming, southern Montana and eastern Nevada. Total snow amounts will depend on exact location and elevation, but some areas could see up to 12...

Snowstorms returning soon for Northwest truckers

Highway department truck with "Chains Required" sign along a snowy California road.

After about a week of quiet weather, another series of snowstorms will return to the mountains of the northwestern U.S. and southwestern Canada beginning Friday.

Some parts of the region had more than 6 feet of snowfall over a week’s time, from a series of storms that ended late last weekend. This next parade of storms may not produce as much snow. However, truckers will still have to chain up, hitting delays at times through the Cascades and Sierra Nevada during the next seven to 10 days.

Several Pacific storm systems will move onshore into the Pacific Northwest over the next several days, producing heavy snowfall and gusty winds in the higher elevations.
