Heavy lake effect snowfall that started Sunday will keep roads slick Monday across parts of the interior Northeast.

Cold, northwesterly winds on the backside of a low-pressure system are flowing over the relatively warmer waters of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. Abundant moisture will keep the snow coming all day in some areas Monday.

Several rounds of wintry weather could slow down truckers the rest of this week from the northern Rockies to the Great Lakes. The National Weather Service (NWS) is expecting the worst conditions late Wednesday through Friday.

Weekend snowstorm to impact truckers across northern Plains (with forecast video)

The first substantial winter storm of the season for the northern Plains will hit this weekend. Truck drivers who can’t avoid the region — or choose not to do so — will run into some heavy snowfall and high winds.
