Boeing to sunset 767 freighter program, slow 777X rollout amid strike

Boeing said Friday afternoon it will stop production of the 767 freighter in 2027, sooner than expected, and won’t have the next-generation 777-8 freighter ready for commercial use until 2028, at least a year later than previously scheduled, as the company looks to stem financial losses amid a month-long machinists strike.

Management also announced it will take a $3 billion pre-tax charge on the 777X and 767 programs, lay off about 10% of its workforce and report a third-quarter loss of $9.97...

Air Canada abandons plans for two Boeing 767 converted freighters

Air Canada has again scaled back growth plans for its startup freighter division, announcing Thursday it has canceled orders with a vendor to convert two Boeing 767-300 passenger jets into freighters.

The airline took a one-time charge of US$14.5 million for backing out of reservations for production slots at Israel Aircraft Industries, it said in its earnings report for the first quarter.

Air Canada says freight demand beginning to improve

Air Canada expects the slow recovery in cargo volume that began in the fourth quarter to quicken in 2024, aided by the addition of two more freighter aircraft, but doesn’t anticipate gains in pricing power, Mark Galardo, executive vice president for network planning and revenue management, said Friday.

The 2-year-old cargo airline within Air Canada (TSX: AC) currently operates five converted and two factory-built Boeing 767-300 freighters. It is scheduled this year to receive two cargo jets...

FedEx, UPS unfazed by Boeing freighter delays over supplier snafu

Boeing has not delivered any 767 freighters so far this year because of a supplier’s fouled fuel tanks, but the delays are not likely to impact operations at FedEx and UPS — the biggest buyers of the midsize cargo jet.

More than a dozen 767 freighters and U.S. Air Force KC-46 tankers are stuck in inventory because Triumph Group (NYSE: TGI) did not properly clean and conduct tests for primer paint adhesion before delivery to Boeing (NYSE: BA), the online aviation publication The Air Current...

Boeing 787 planes on the assembly line.

WASHINGTON — Boeing CEO David Calhoun said Thursday the aerospace manufacturer is leaning toward developing a freighter version of its 787 Dreamliner as a replacement for the 767 freighter and said the cargo market is on a strong upward trajectory that will boost sales of all-cargo aircraft well into the future.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) must terminate production of the popular 767 and 777 freighters at the end of 2027 to comply with global emissions rules. The company recently launched the 777-X...
