Migrants rescued from locked train car crossing US-Mexico border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents rescued over two dozen migrants locked inside a train car stationed in Laredo, Texas.

According to a news release published by the agency, agents assigned to the Cotulla Station discovered 23 migrants stowed away in a locked train compartment on Tuesday morning. While working their assigned duties, agents conducted a train check and discovered undocumented non-citizens in a train compartment.

Texas trucker gets 7 years in prison for role in migrant smuggling

A Texas truck driver has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in smuggling people who illegally came to the United States from Mexico.

Sedrick Zelitis Smith, 47, of Dallas, used his CDL to assist a human smuggling organization. He coordinated the transport of migrants who arrived in Laredo, Texas, from Mexico. Authorities say he served as the go-between for the smuggling ring’s leadership and assisted with driving migrants from Laredo to San Antonio.

Border agents seize $500K of cocaine hidden in truck hauling cotton candy

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized nearly $500,000 worth of cocaine squirreled away in a semitruck hauling cotton candy in Texas.

Authorities found the drugs Thursday at World Trade Bridge in Laredo when an officer referred a truck hauling a shipment of cotton candy for secondary inspection, the agency announced in a news release.
