Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) shows no sign of slowing down its hunger for secondhand tonnage with brokers this week linking the line to another acquisition, reports splash 247.

Maersk Targets To Become Carbon Neutral In Three Decades

Elbdeich Reederei Buys Boxship Trio

According to brokers, Elbdeich Reederei bought three sister vessels owned by Wessels Reederei, says an article published in Splash 247.

Purchase details

Elbdeich has paid €24m ($29m) for the 1,036 teu trio Wes Amelie (2010), Wes Janine (2012), and Wes Carina (2011) according to Braemar ACM. 

The Chinese-built ships were sold in a bank sale according to VesselsValue, who value the three ships at a total of $29.02m.

Taiwan’s Wan Hai Orders 12 Boxships at Nihon Shipyard

Taiwanese shipping line Wan Hai Lines has announced a plan to order twelve 3,013 teu boxships at the newly founded Nihon Shipyard.

About The Ship

The ships will be built at Japan Marine United (JMU) and the total value of the order is $565.2m.

Wan Hai ordered eight 3,036 teu ships at JMU in 2018, with four of the ships delivered so far. The company also has twelve 2,038 teu ships on order at China’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

  • Seaspan has entered into purchase orders to build five high-quality 12,200 TEU containerships (“the Vessels”).

  • MSC has snapped up 2000-built 1,730 teu feeder boxship Amanda D.
  • The vessel has been renamed MSC Panaya, and like many of MSC’s recent purchases it was previously on charter to the line.

CMA CGM and MSC Pulls Out Boxships for Retrofit

Four ultra-large boxships are to be out of service to have exhaust gas cleaning equipment (scrubbers) installed, reports Ship and Bunker.
