According to an Alphaliner research, the number of boxships withdrawing from service for scrubber installations has surged in recent weeks and is set to climb further in the coming couple of months, reports Splash 247.

31 Vessels Retrofitting

Based on Alphaliner’s fleet survey as per 30 July 2019, at least 31 vessels are currently undergoing scrubber retrofits, with a total capacity of 350,000 teu out of service as a result.

Maersk Boxship Fined After Locals Spot Plumes of Black Smoke

According to a Splash 247 report, observant Spanish locals last week spotted a boxship belching out more smoke than normal, leading to a swift EUR20,000 ($22,435) fine for Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company.
