Massachusetts DOT sues Alabama trucking company for 2021 bridge strike

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is suing an Alabama trucking company after one of the carrier’s trucks struck a bridge in 2021, causing “substantial damage.”

The agency filed suit Friday against Dove Transportation, which is based in Lincoln, Alabama, about 45 miles from Birmingham. The incident occurred on July 19, 2021, when driver Curtis Henry hit a bridge in Medford, Massachusetts, on I-93.

Parents sue driver, Colorado towing company over fatal bridge strike

The parents of a woman killed last month after a trucker crashed into an overpass on Interstate 25 in Colorado have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the towing company and the driver.

According to court documents, Megan Arneson, 32, of Weld County, Colorado, and her 10-year-old son, Joe Duenas, were driving northbound on I-25 around 6 p.m. MDT on Aug. 8 near Mead, Colorado, when the tractor-trailer in front of them struck the bridge with the excavator the driver was hauling.

NTSB reports on expensive barge strike on bridge fendering

The National Transportation Safety Board has published its report on an August 19, 2020, incident in which a loaded Brance Diversified Inc. hopper barge, pushed by a River Ventures LLC towing vessel, struck the protective fendering of the Peter P. Cobb Memorial Bridge, near Fort Pierce, Fla.

There were no injuries to the four crewmembers on the towing vessel and no pollution reported. Damage to the barge was estimated at $5,000. Damage to the protective fendering of the bridge was $641,000.
