Moran Iron Works building new ferry for Michigan

Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry and Moran Iron Works are joining forces a second time to build a $4 million 84’x20’3″ ferry in Northeast Michigan.

St. Johns Ship Building, Palatka, Fla., is building four new 152’x52’x12′ 150-passenger, 30-vehicle ferries for an unnamed owner. Moran Iron Works (MIW) has signed a contract with Pictured Rocks Kayaking (PRK) to build a specialized passenger tour vessel. Together, and in conjunction with Donald L. Blount & Associates (a division of Gibbs & Cox Inc.), they are creating a special purpose tour boat that is a first of its kind in the Great Lakes region.
