Star Bulk faces costs in Q1 2019 due to scrubber installations

Greek shipping firm ‘Star Bulk Carriers’ announced its Q1 2019 financial results, presenting a net loss of $5.3 million during a challenging and seasonally weak period of the year, which included approximately 300 off-hire days for scrubber installations.

Port of Hamburg sees strong Q1 growth for 2019

Port of Hamburg announced its financial results for Q1 of 2019, noting that it is experiencing an increase, with seaborne cargo throughput increased by 6%, general cargo throughput risen by 5.4% and bulk cargo up by 7.5%. Container traffic continues to rise during Q1 in port of Antwerp

During the first quarter of 2019, the overall cargo throughput at the port of Antwerp experienced a decrease of 3% year-on-year. On the contrary, container traffic saw a strong growth, with March being the strongest month ever for this sector.

Port of Rotterdam sees its container throughput increase

Port of Rotterdam’s throughput in 2018 resulted to 469.0 million tonnes, a little bit higher than 2017. Container transhipment reached a 4.5% increase in tonnage, whereas measured in TEUs, the standard unit for containers, increased by 5.7% and the annual total was 14.5 million TEUs.

Throughput of Sea Port of St Petersburg increases by 12% in 2018

During 2018, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC handled 7.7 million tonnes of cargo showing a 12%  increase in comparison to 2017’s numbers. Port of Riga achieves records in multiple cargo groups

Container volumes continued to grow at Port of Rotterdam

In the first three quarters of 2018, total throughput in the Port of Rotterdam was 0.4% less than in the same period the previous year. However, container volumes continued to grow at a higher pace than the first nine months of 2017.

On the other hand, wet and dry bulk declined in volume, despite the fact that LNG and biomass were two positive outliers within these product segments.

Overall, 350 million tonnes of cargo were handled, a decrease of 1.5 million tonnes compared to last year.
