Emirates Shipping Line starts Russian FE-South Korea service

Dubai-based liner operator Emirates Shipping Line (ESL), is launching a Russian Far East-South Korea service, in another sign of growing cargo volumes along the route.

ESL will purchase slots on Korea Marine Transport Company’s (KMTC Line) Busan-Vladivostok Express (AVX) service, with the first voyage beginning 3 September 2020. KMTC Line is deploying a chartered vessel, the 342TEU Sunny Oak, to the service.

Milano Bridge hits Port of Busan gantry crane

The 13,870TEU container ship Milano Bridge, owned by Mi Das Line SA has collided with a gantry crane at Busan Port, South Korea, which caused the collapse of the crane, earlier today.

South Korea’s container ports secure additional storage sites

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of South Korea said on 7 February 2020 that alternative container storage sites have been secured, alleviating the increasing burden on the country’s ports, amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Anxious governments have taken drastic action by quarantining ships arriving from China. The usual post-Lunar New Year lull has also seen liner operators reducing their sailings. This has resulted in shipments to and from China being delayed.

S. Korean ports overwhelmed as coronavirus stalls cargo throughput

Authorities in the South Korean ports of Busan and Incheon are planning to move excess container cargoes to idle sites as the novel coronavirus afflicting China has delayed container shipments to and from the latter country.
