Ports of Kaohsiung and Busan ink sister port deal

The ports of Kaohsiung and Busan signed a sister port agreement in a ceremony on 29 August at the headquarters of the Busan Port Authority (BPA) in South Korea.

Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) vice president & Port of Kaohsiung CEO Chin-jung Wang and BPA vice president Ja-Rim Koo signed the deal, which was witnessed by TIPC chairman Hsien-yi Lee, BPA president Joon-Suk Kang, and Taipei Mission in Korea (Busan Office) director Cheng-kai Kuo.

Busan Port Authority and partners enhance port safety

Busan Port Authority (BPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the telecommunications company KT and Sea Bank, aiming to prevent accidents and ensure safety in the port.

Upon the agreement, the three partners will collaborate on a pilot service for an Internet of things (IoT) distress notification system, and will jointly develop a port safety platform.

They also plan to expand and operate an IoT wireless coverage and hold field tests, according to a statement.

Feeder terminal to open in Busan New Port in 2025

Busan New Port will build a dedicated feeder terminal as part of the development of its west container pier.

More than half of Busan’s empty boxes are dirty or damaged

Trailer drivers in Busan have complained that shipping lines are neglecting to inspect, clean and repair containers, instead they have passed on the responsibility to them.

Around 52% of empty containers lying in Busan Port are in poor condition, according to Busan Port Authority’s (BPA) examination of a sample of empty containers across the nine terminals in South Korea’s busiest container port.

IoT to pre-empt crane malfunctions in Busan Port

Busan Port Authority is undertaking a three-year research project to develop a solution to pre-empt and diagnose problems in container cranes, using the Internet of Things (IoT).
