“K” Line signs long-term charter for an LNG-fuelled, wind-assisted, capesize bulker

Tokyo, Japan-based shipping and logistics giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE) has signed a long-term consecutive voyage charter with steel manufacturer JFE Steel Corporation for a new 210,000 deadweight bulker fuelled by liquefied natural gas.

One Dead After a Gas Explosion on Capesize Vessel

According to a Lloyd’s List article, a gas explosion on a capesize vessel in Indonesian waters has claimed one life. 

What happened?

The vessel was sailing from China to Australia when the incident occurred during a routine gas charging operation.

The crew member of a Singapore-flagged Capesize bulker was fatally injured in a gas explosion aboard the ship on October 28.

The 2014-built Cape India was transiting Makassar Strait at the time of the explosion, according to local reports.
