Cargo shipping via Latvian ports down in 2019

In 2019, cargo shipping via Latvian ports slowed 5.7 percent year on year to 62.4 million tons, the Baltic country’s Transport Ministry informed Monday, January 20.

According to data from the ministry, bulk cargo made up 35 million tons of the ports’ combined cargo turnover last year, which is a reduction of 6.3 percent from 2018.

Dublin Port sees slight increase in 2019

The latest figures show a growth in unitised volumes (Ro-Ro and Lo-Lo combined) of +3.6% to 1.5 million units.  Over the six years since the economic recovery began in 2013, unitised trade has grown by +41.3%.

The continued strength in unitised growth was, however, offset by a large one-off decline in Bulk Solid commodities and, as a result, overall tonnage growth for the year was just +0.4%.

Zeebrugge sees significant growth in box sector

The port of Zeebrugge handled a total volume of 45.8 million tonnes in 2019. This 14.2 percent growth is the result of advancement in all important sectors in the port of Zeebrugge: roll-on/roll-off, liquid natural gas, containers and new vehicles. LA Port moved near-record cargo last year

The Port of Los Angeles moved near-record cargo in 2019 with a total of 9,337,632 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), just short of the second-best year in its 113-year history. Port NOLA sets new container record in 2019

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) moved more containers in 2019 than at any time in its history, totaling 648,538 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 10% compared to one year ago. The record marks the sixth consecutive year the Port surpassed the half million TEU-mark at its Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal, which is operated by New Orleans Terminal and Ports America.

Ningbo enjoys exciting performance in 2019

Ningbo Zhoushan port, China’s busiest port, saw cargo throughput exceed 1.1 billion tonnes in 2019, official statistics showed.

This makes the port in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province the only one in the world to exceed such volume, according to statistics released by Zhejiang port and shipping management center.

The container throughput at the port surpassed 27.53 million standard containers last year, ranking third in the world.

Record November for Port of NY & NJ

The Port of New York and New Jersey hit record volumes in both rail cargo and overall container throughput for November. Total volume for November 2019 reached 599,626 TEUs (338,857 lifts), a 2.7 percent increase over the 583,880 TEUs (331,242 lifts) posted the previous year. The increase brings the yearly total to 6,886,388 TEUs.

Indian major ports record marginal growth

India’s 12 major ports recorded a marginal 0.98% growth in cargo volumes at 524.02 million tonnes (MT) during the April-December period this year, according to the Indian Ports Association (IPA). The ports had handled 518.93 MT of cargo during the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
