Pirates abduct three seafarers from Malta-registered tanker

Pirates off Africa’s western coast attacked a Malta-registered tanker and kidnapped three of its crew members, as reported by Romania’s Free Trade Union of Navigators (SLN) and the Romanian Ministy of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

The tanker ‘Histria Ivory’ run by Romanian crew members was under attack on February 3, when voyaging through the Gulf of Guinea.

The incident took place 20 nautical miles off the port of Lome in Togo.

Passengers transferred safely from aground Wavemaster 5

On March 2, the Singapore-flagged ferry ‘Wavemaster 5’ ran aground at Karang Galang reef, off the eastern coast of Batam, Indonesia. The ferry was voyaging from Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Singapore, when the incident occurred.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), all 50 passengers and seven crew members on board the ferry, which was making its way from Indonesia to Singapore, are safe.

USCG: Unsafe stability condition led to fishing vessel sinking

The US Coast Guard released its report on the sinking of the commercial fishing vessel (CFV) ‘Destination’, which took place on February 9, 2017. The 110-foot vessel sank while it was sailing in the Bering Strait, and six crewmembers died.

Investigation on West Phoenix rig fire finds breaches of regulations

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) completed its investigation on the fire in the mud laboratory on West Phoenix of 5 November 2018. The report identified several breaches of the regulations. This rig is operated by Seadrill Management (Seadrill), and was drilling well 6406/2-9 S in Norwegian Sea with Equinor as the operator, when the incident took place.

Watch: Fuel removal began for grounded Efe Murat off Italy

Two container ships collide at Busan Port

The container ship Safmarine Nokwamda collided with the container ship Tianjin, while berthing at Busan Container Terminal, on March 2. Both ships sustained damages, while several containers fell from Tianjin.
