Poor pre-bunker checklist contributes to HSFO overflow

In its latest Safety Digest, the UK MAIB described an incident of a Heavy Sulphur Fuel Oil overflow during bunkering operation. MAIB highlighted that at least one of the two isolating valves that caused the incident could have been closed fully if it had been checked as per the checklist.

The Hong Kong-flagged tanker ‘Feng Huang AO’, with 21 crew aboard, suffered a fire ignite in its engine room while transiting 57 miles southeast of Nantucket Island, in the Atlantic Ocean, on 5 October early morning, the US Coast Guard informed.

Passenger vessel catches fire off Louisiana

The passenger vessel ‘Grand Sun’ caught fire in Chandeleur Sound, Louisiana, on Monday October 8. The vessel had four people on board at the time of the incident, who were transported to emergency medical services.

Container ship, ferry collide near Corsica

The container ship ‘CSL Virginia’ collided with the ferry ‘Ulysse’ near Corsica on Sunday, October 7. Both ships sustained damages, while no injuries have been reported.

At the time of the accident, ‘CSL Virginia’ was anchored north of Cap Corse, northern Corsica peninsula, when it was struck by ‘Ulysse’, which was heading from Genoa Italy to Tunis Tunisia.
