CBO: Navy’s 2025 shipbuilding plan would cost $40BN a year

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its analysis of the U.S. Navy’s 2025 30-year shipbuilding plan. As in its previous analyses of Navy shipbuilding plans, the CBO finds that the cost of the plan would be higher than Navy estimates.

In response to a request from the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has prepared a report on the planned LSM program. Previously called the light amphibious warship (LAW), the new ship is expected to...

New CBO report takes a hard look at Navy shipbuilding plans

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its latest analysis of U.S. Navy shipbuilding plan costs. Not for the first time, the CBO report finds costs would be higher than the Navy estimates and that the average annual appropriation required would be substantially higher than the average over the past five years.

As we’ve noted oftentimes, the Navy is the U.S. shipbuilding industry’s largest customer, so we can expect the CBO report to provide industry leaders with some less than light...

CBO Report on Nuclear Submarine Maintenance

The following is the March 24, 2021 Congressional Budget Office report, The Capacity of the Navy’s Shipyards to Maintain Its Submarines.
