Σε ένα σημαντικό βήμα για την εφαρμογή της τεχνολογίας δέσμευσης και αποθήκευσης άνθρακα (CCS) προχώρησαν, μέσω της υπογραφής ενός συμφωνητικού κατανόησης (MoU), η Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) σε συνεργασία με την JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation (JX). Το MoU αυτό έχει σκοπό την ανάπτυξη μιας εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας για τη δέσμευση και την αποθήκευση διοξειδίου του άνθρακα μεταξύ της Ιαπωνίας και της Αυστραλίας, συμπεριλαμβανομένης και της θαλάσσιας μεταφοράς του.
