Management from Heartland Express will roll up its sleeves to again integrate a fleet with a less than stellar operating track record. On Monday, the Iowa-based truckload carrier acquired several assets from the Contract Freighters Inc. (CFI) portfolio, which is owned and operated by TFI International, for an enterprise value of $525 million.

In the deal, Heartland gets the over-the-road TL fleet (CFI Truckload), CFI Temp-Control and the Mexican cross-border TL and LTL asset-light logistics unit...

The Truckload Carriers Association has named truck driver Zach Yeakley, from Batesville, Arkansas, a Highway Angel for rescuing six victims from a chain-reaction crash.

On March 17, around 8:15 a.m. CT, Yeakley was hauling a full truckload of freight to West Memphis, Arkansas, when he heard on his CB radio about an accident up ahead. He was on Interstate 57 near Charleston, Missouri. He soon noticed smoke and a man wearing a safety vest flagging down drivers to alert them to the accident.

Driver pay hikes continue to roll in

Pay hikes not likely to slow for some time

High demand and a lack of qualified drivers has pushed truckload carriers to raise pay substantially over the past year and a half. Wage increases have helped fleets maintain size through the pandemic, but few have been able to grow organically. Following a round of large pay increases in 2021, it appears the industry will continue to push pay rates higher to address a labor shortfall.

Two more fleets announced pay hikes this week.

Los aumentos salariales de los conductores siguen llegando

Pay hikes not likely to slow for some time
