Snowstorm returning to Western states

Less than a week after the first major snowstorm of the season faded across the Rockies, the next is already on its way.

Parts of Montana and Wyoming were slammed with more than 24 inches of snow as well as blizzard conditions the first four days of last week. The next storm, which began Sunday night, will first impact truckers in the Sierra Nevada.

1st big snowfall of season possibly coming to Mountain West

A big change in the weather will change summerlike conditions to winter across parts of the Northwest and Rockies.

Temperatures were well above normal in the Northwest most of the summer and that trend continued into early fall. October began with temperatures more typical of July or August in the northern Rockies. The high in Helena, Montana, soared to 84 degrees Tuesday, surpassing the daily record high of 81 degrees set in 1958. Helena’s average high for Oct. 5 is 64 degrees.

Snowstorms still trucking through Northwest

Truckers will hit another round of heavy snowfall and gusty winds Wednesday in the mountains of the Northwest. This has been a persistent pattern for more than a week, with some places seeing 3 to 5 feet of snow already in 2021.

Snowstorms continue this week for Northwest truckers

The parade of snowstorms that began in the Northwest several days ago marches on. Truckers will have to chain up heading through high elevations of the Cascades, Sierra Nevada and northern Rockies this week as periods of heavy snowfall and gusty winds continue.
