Chennai Port Welcomes Largest Container Ship

  • The Chennai Port welcomed the largest container vessel MV CMA CGM Rhone to visit India’s south and eastern coast.

Cleanliness campaign launched at Chennai port

Chennai Port launched ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is service) campaign on Wednesday. Apart from cleaning activities, the campaign will focus on reducing the use of plastic and completely do away with single-use plastic. P. Raveendran, chairman of Chennai Port, inaugurated the campaign by administering the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ pledge to more than 300 officers and staff of the port.

Chennai Port to handle Kia Motors exports

Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) has scored over three ports in the south to bag a contract from Kia Motors to handle the exports of the South Korean carmaker.

“It is a tremendous win for us as we had to compete with well-known ports in the south,” said P. Raveendran, chairman, ChPT.

“This win has given us the confidence to develop car exports from ChPT in a big way,” he said.

Chennai port sets new record in box handling

The Chennai port has surpassed its own record in container handling. The East Coast’s gateway port handled 15.70 lakh TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) as on March 21 — 10 days ahead of the fiscal closure .

The previous record of 15.65 lakh TEUs was achieved in 2015-16.
