First Chilean cherries arrived in Hong Kong

On December 14th, the first sea shipment to China of the 2018/19 season’s Chilean cherries arrived in Hong Kong. Soon after the arrival, the cherries were distributed to a variety of channels. In order to get a first-hand account of the arrival of this delivery, Produce Report interviewed Mr. Owen Ou, General Manager of Shanghai Riverking Co., one of the importers behind this shipment.

Revised cherry forecast for Chilean exports

New estimate pegs 2018/19 export crop at 167,232 tonnes, a decrease of 7.1 per cent on the original forecast

Chilean cherry exports are projected to fall by 10.5 per cent on last season following the rain and hailstorms that struck central Chile earlier this month.

Chile kicks off export season

Chilean Agriculture Minister Antonio Walker on Thursday (Nov. 22) officially kicked off the country’s 2018-2019 export season by placing the final crate of cherries in a container bound for China.

“It’s very exciting to seal off the first container that is going to China on a 35-day journey. For us, as a ministry, it’s very exciting to signal the starting point, the initial kickoff, of this fruit season,” Walker told reporters in Requinoa, some 100 km south of the capital Santiago.
