Japan-China-Europe container sea-rail service launched

China Rail has opened a container sea-rail route from Japan’s Nagoya port to Europe, via Wuhan, China.

The service began on 2 December 2020, with some completely knocked-down parts from Toyota Motors’ Nagoya headquarters being shipped to Wuhan’s Yangluo port.

The containers arrived in Yangluo on 8 December, and the following day, were taken to the railway station.

China Rail launches Japan-Mongolia sea-rail service

China Rail has launched a sea-and-rail service to transport containers from Japan to landlocked Mongolia, via China’s Lianyungang port, 500km north of Shanghai.

The first train set off from Sino-Kazakh Logistics Cooperation Base (SKLCB) in Lianyungang in China’s Jiangsu province, carrying containers loaded with second-hand cars and construction materials, among other items. The containers had arrived by sea, from Japan, and will be railed to Ulan Bator, around 2,000km northwest of Lianyungang.

China-Europe rail freight bucks Covid-19 trend

China State Railway Group Company (China Rail) said that container rail freight to Europe grew in the first quarter of 2020 as Chinese manufacturers resumed operations after the Covid-19 outbreak.

Demand for medical protection equipment, much of which is manufactured in China, resulted in higher container volumes being railed to Europe.
