Birdon buys Metal Shark Bayou La Batre shipyard

Australia’s Birdon Group reports that its Birdon America Inc. subsidiary has acquired Metal Shark Boats’ 32-acre Bayou La Batre shipyard in Alabama. It says that the acquisition brings a fully developed shipyard into Birdon’s growing portfolio of facilities throughout the U.S. and will allow it to provide a further range of shipbuilding and repair services.

Metal Shark introduces 57′ high-performance military patrol vessel

Metal Shark has added a welded-aluminum 52 Fearless Super Interceptor to its lineup. The 57.4’x11.5’ offshore-capable, ultra-high-performance military patrol vessel has a top speed of around 70 knots.

Autonomous technology continues to advance

U.S. boatbuilder Metal Shark brought a 38′ Defiant patrol boat to the Multi-Agency Craft Conference last year in Baltimore. Along with its partner ASV Global, what set the team’s SharkTech patrol boat apart from the others was that it was an autonomous vessel.
