Amasus Shipping to retrofit vessel with suction sail solution

Netherlands-based short sea shipping specialist Amasus Shipping is to fit its 91-meter general cargo ship EEMS Traveller with two 17 meter high eSAIL suction sails from Barcelona, Spain-based rigid sail specialist bound4blue.

The eSail is one of several wind assisted propulsion solutions offered by the company. The eSAIL technology is based on active boundary layer control using suction. When exposed to wind, with the suction off, it only produces drag as with any other non-lifting structure....

Posidonia 2022 To Set Countdown Agenda for IMO’s next decarbonisation milestone

Leading classification societies outline roadmap to GHG emissions target reduction

The world’s leading classification societies for the marine industry are returning to Posidonia this June, following the pandemic-induced hiatus, during which they have been mapping out the path to the International Maritime Organisation’s 2030 deadline, for an at least 40% reduction of shipping’s average carbon intensity (CO2 per tonne mile), compared to 2008.

The most imminent milestone of the IMO’s...

Deltamarin blog: How long will your ships be compliant? – Here’s what we have learned about EEXI and CII

The shipping industry is being pushed towards cleaner emissions, not least from the legislation point of view. The new EEXI and CII rules are being extended to cover practically all ships, old and new.

Our newest blog sheds some light on our technical experience in these rules and presents how to technically cope with the regulations for a brighter future.

Fathom World update and podcast news

Graig Eason and Edwin Pang

As usual the meeting of the marine environment protection committee at the IMO was political and slow paced, and they came up with some numbers which were criticised by some and welcomed by others.
But ship owners now have the CII & EEXI to deal with, and it is not going to be easy for everyone to comply with. The devil will really be in the detail, so to get under them I spoke to Edwin Pang at RINA for a special episode of the...

IMO Defines New Guidelines To Support GHG Measures

  • A set of draft guidelines to support mandatory measures to cut the carbon intensity of all ships has been agreed, for submission to the MEPC.
  • The guidelines are expected to be adopted when the MEPC meets for its 76th session from 10-17 June, 2021.
  • The dual approach aims to address both technical (how the ship is equipped and retrofitted) and operational measures (how the ship operates).

An International Maritime Organization (IMO) working group has agreed a set of draft guidelines to support...
